What should I wear to a Yoga class ?
General sports wear is fine. Shoes, trainers and socks are always removed for Yoga classes. Teachers prefer students to wear shorts or lycra leggings so that they can check the correct alignment of the legs in postures. Food and drink should not be consumed during a class.
Can I do Yoga if I have health problems ?
As always, you should consult your doctor before starting any course of exercise if you are worried about your health. Iyengar Yoga teachers are experienced at dealing with a wide range of conditions such as injuries, back and joint problems and high blood pressure in new students. Your teacher will either give you alternative exercises when a posture is not suitable for you or may be able to prescribe specific exercises to improve your condition.
Am I too stiff to do Yoga ?
We all come into the world extremely flexible as babies and children but poor posture, sedentary lifestyles, stress and natural ageing gradually take their toll. It doesn't matter how stiff you are when you start Yoga, with regular practice your flexibility will steadily increase.
